This week we travel back to the United States to shine the spotlight on Don Ortega, the face of Euphoric Nation, a trance DJ based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Any man who lists Bryan Kearney as an influence on his Facebook artist page has my confidence. I love me some Bryan Kearney but that is another post for another day. Right now we are talking about a DJ that is committed to experiencing trance in its various forms and making sure the world knows about this special genre of music.
In addition to playing around Minneapolis (Ortega recently opened for Cosmic Gate), Euphoric Nation hosts a weekly radio show called Trance Paradise that brings the listener the best in trance and progressive. The radio show has surpassed 300 episodes and is broadcast on Afterhours.fm every Thursday. You can listen to a recent episode of Trance Paradise below.
Euphoric Nation gives back to the community in more ways than just mixing trance. Earlier this month he held a competition that asked DJs to submit their mixes for consideration to play an opening set prior to Ucast at Rev Ultra Lounge in Minneapolis this upcoming Saturday on April 1. The winner, Matt McNeil who is also known as Diagenetic, will be joining local dj Chris Blackbeard on this night.
Don first started Euphoric Nation with his brothers Carlos and Casiano Ortega. The three brothers began making a weekly radio show in 2010 that they named Trance Paradise. In 2011 Romel Brown was added as a fourth member, only to have Carlos Ortega leave the group to pursue his education. In 2012 Romel Brown would leave the group. Eventually, Don Ortega would become the only member of Euphoric Nation but has continued on in his musical endeavors.
Euphoric Nation is a pillar in his local trance community and is living proof that following your dreams can take you far and wide. You Betta Trance salutes you, brother. Love from Texas. One day we shall have to make a trip up to Minneapolis to check out your scene.
